What Is Drop Weight?
What Is Drop Weight?
Definition
Drop weight is the actual weight of a single drop of liquid, such as an essential oil, measured in grams. It connects the idea of “one drop” to a precise number on a scale so formulas can move cleanly between drops and weight.
Why It Matters
Drop weight matters because not all drops weigh the same, even at the same drop count. Knowing the drop weight for a given oil lets you convert recipes from drops to grams, scale batches up or down, track cost, and keep the scent and performance of a blend consistent.
How Drop Weight Works
Drop weight is usually written as grams per drop, for example 0.020 grams per drop. Thicker, heavier oils often have a higher drop weight, while lighter, thinner oils have a lower drop weight, so measuring by weight instead of only counting drops gives more reliable, repeatable results.
Examples
An oil that weighs 0.020 grams per drop
A heavier oil that weighs 0.028 grams per drop
A lighter oil that weighs 0.015 grams per drop

How Sfumare Uses This Concept
Sfumare uses drop weight to translate test blend formulas made in drops into accurate gram based production batches. By working from real drop weight data, Sfumare keeps each diffuser blend aligned with its original scent design, no matter how many bottles are being poured.
