What Is an Orifice Reducer?
What Is an Orifice Reducer?
Definition
Sfumare retail diffuser blends are the final, polished expressions of Sfumare’s test work, blend architecture, and material decisions. Each one is developed in the studio, refined through small test blends, then bottled as a stable, repeatable product so you can bring a precise, intentional atmosphere into your home with just a few drops.
Why It Matters
Without an orifice reducer, essential oils can rush out too fast, wasting product and making it hard to count drops accurately. With the reducer in place, you can tilt the bottle and dispense a controlled, predictable number of drops into a diffuser, test blend, or formulation.
How an Orifice Reducer Works
The reducer snaps into the neck of the bottle and has a tiny central hole that lets the oil drip when the bottle is tipped. The shape of the insert and size of the opening help create reasonably consistent drop size and flow, especially for typical essential oil viscosities.
Examples
Counting drops of a diffuser blend directly from a bottle into the diffuser water.
Adding a precise number of drops from a bottle when scaling a 1 mL test blend.
Carrying a bottle in a bag without worrying that the entire contents will pour out if the cap loosens.

How Sfumare Used This Concept
Sfumare uses orifice reducers on diffuser blend bottles so you can pour by the drop with control and confidence. This makes it easier to follow usage guidance, repeat your favorite settings, and conserve each blend while still getting the room presence you want.
